cajón
Peruvian percussion box
A cajón is a box-shaped percussion instrument, originally from Peru, that the player sits on and strikes with the hands.
The front face, called the tapa, produces the sound, while a sound hole in the back allows resonance.
Cajóns have become popular in flamenco, acoustic pop, and unplugged performances where a full drum kit would be impractical.
The singer-songwriter toured with just a guitarist and a cajón player.
