Krishna

Divine Hindu cowherd

Krishna is a major Hindu deity, an avatar of the god Vishnu, worshipped as the Supreme Being in many traditions.

He appears in the Mahabharata as a divine charioteer and counselor, delivering the Bhagavad Gita's teachings to the warrior Arjuna.

Krishna is depicted as a mischievous child, flute-playing cowherd, and divine lover—particularly in stories of his romance with Radha.

The name means "dark" or "all-attractive" in Sanskrit.

Hare Krishna is both a mantra and informal name for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
