Basra is a city in southeastern Iraq, the country's main port and second-largest city.

Located on the Shatt al-Arab waterway near the Persian Gulf, it has historically been a center of trade and oil production.

The city saw significant conflict during the Iran-Iraq War and the 2003 Iraq War: British forces secured Basra in the early days of the invasion.
