Sauron

Sauron is the principal antagonist in J.R.R.

Tolkien's fantasy novels *The Lord of the Rings* and *The Silmarillion*, a dark lord who seeks to dominate Middle-earth through the power of the One Ring.

His name has become shorthand for an all-seeing, tyrannical evil, particularly one that operates through surveillance or corrupting influence.

The new surveillance law has real Sauron energy.

In casual use, Sauron may describe any boss or authority figure perceived as malevolent and omnipresent.
