Gollum

Gollum is a fictional character from J.R.R.

Tolkien's novels, a wretched creature corrupted by long possession of a magic ring.

The name has become shorthand for someone obsessive, hunched, or pathetically fixated on a single object or goal: He's gone full Gollum over that promotion.

The character's split personality also colors the usage—someone arguing with themselves or showing dramatic mood shifts might be called Gollum.
