Morgoth
Morgoth is the primary antagonist of J.R.R.
Tolkien's legendarium—a fallen divine being who corrupted Middle-earth before the events of *The Lord of the Rings*.
Originally named Melkor, he was the most powerful of the godlike Valar but turned to darkness, earning the name Morgoth ("Dark Enemy") from the Elves.
He is Sauron's master and the original source of evil in Tolkien's mythology: Morgoth bred the first orcs from corrupted elves.
