Uruk-hai
Uruk-hai are a fictional race of orcs in J.R.R.
Tolkien's Middle-earth, bred by Saruman to be larger, stronger, and able to travel in daylight—unlike ordinary orcs, who shun the sun.
They serve as elite shock troops in *The Lord of the Rings*: The Uruk-hai pursued the hobbits across Rohan.
The name has become shorthand for brutish, purpose-bred soldiers.
