Gimli

Manitoba lakeside town

Gimli is a town in Manitoba, Canada, located on the western shore of Lake Winnipeg.

Originally settled by Icelandic immigrants in the 1870s, it remains a center of Icelandic-Canadian culture and hosts the annual Icelandic Festival of Manitoba.

The name comes from Norse mythology, referring to a great hall where survivors of Ragnarök would dwell.

For many, however, Gimli now primarily evokes the fierce, axe-wielding dwarf from Tolkien's *The Lord of the Rings*.
