Saigon

Ho Chi Minh's predecessor

Saigon is the former name of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest city and economic center.

The city was renamed in 1976 after North Vietnam's victory in the Vietnam War, but Saigon remains in common use, especially among Vietnamese diaspora and in casual speech.

The fall of Saigon refers to the city's capture by North Vietnamese forces in April 1975, marking the war's end.
