Mekong Delta

Southeast Asian floodplain

The Mekong Delta is the region in southern Vietnam where the Mekong River fans out into tributaries before emptying into the South China Sea.

Known as Vietnam's rice bowl, its flat, fertile floodplains produce much of the country's agriculture.

The delta's landscape is defined by rivers, canals, and floating markets: We took a boat through the Mekong Delta.
