embassy
Foreign soil, domestically
An embassy is the official residence and offices of an ambassador in a foreign country, or the diplomatic mission itself: The protesters gathered outside the American embassy.
By extension, embassy can mean the ambassador's staff collectively.
To seek refuge at an embassy is to request diplomatic protection on what is technically foreign soil.
