sidewalk dining
Eating outside restaurants
Sidewalk dining is eating at a restaurant at tables set up on the adjacent sidewalk or patio, typically in good weather.
Common in European cities and increasingly in American urban areas, it offers people-watching and fresh air: The café expanded its sidewalk dining after the city relaxed permit rules.
Also called outdoor dining or al fresco dining.
