Ho Chi Minh City

Southern Vietnamese hub

Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's largest city and economic center, located in the southern part of the country.

Formerly called Saigon, it was renamed in 1976 after the communist revolutionary leader following North Vietnam's victory in the Vietnam War.

Many still call it Saigon informally, especially when referring to the city center: We flew into Ho Chi Minh City but stayed in District 1, the old Saigon.
