Notre-Dame Cathedral
Gothic Parisian church
Notre-Dame Cathedral is the medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité in Paris, one of the most famous examples of French Gothic architecture.
Construction began in 1163 and continued for nearly two centuries.
The cathedral is known for its flying buttresses, rose windows, and gargoyles.
A 2019 fire destroyed its spire and much of the roof, prompting a major restoration.
We visited Notre-Dame Cathedral on our trip to Paris.
Notre-Dame means "Our Lady," referring to the Virgin Mary—a name shared by many Catholic churches.
