Tet Offensive

1968 Vietnam assault

The Tet Offensive was a major military campaign launched by North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces during the Vietnam War in January 1968, timed to coincide with the Tet lunar new year holiday.

Though a tactical defeat for the attackers, it shocked American audiences who had been assured the war was nearly won, becoming a turning point that eroded public support for the conflict: After the Tet Offensive, opinion shifted against the war.
