Roman province
Ancient administered region
A Roman province was an administrative territory of the Roman Empire, governed by an appointed official such as a proconsul or legate.
Provinces were conquered or annexed lands outside Italy itself—Gaul, Syria, Egypt, Britain.
The term now describes any region under Rome's former control: Judea was a Roman province.
Figuratively, province came to mean any area of responsibility or expertise.
