Sicilia
Italy's largest island
Sicilia is the Italian name for Sicily, the large Mediterranean island off the southern tip of the Italian peninsula.
English speakers encounter it on wine labels, in opera settings, and in Italian-American contexts: My grandmother's family came from Sicilia.
The Italian form carries Old World resonance that "Sicily" sometimes lacks.
