Caledonia

The Highlands, anciently

Caledonia is the ancient Roman name for the northern part of Britain, roughly corresponding to modern Scotland.

The term survives in poetic and formal contexts as a literary name for Scotland, carrying connotations of rugged highlands and Celtic heritage.

It appears in place names across the Scottish diaspora, particularly in North America, where towns and counties bear the name.
