Romanization

Spreading Roman ways

Romanization refers either to the process of converting non-Roman scripts into the Roman alphabet, or historically, to the cultural assimilation of conquered peoples into Roman civilization.

The historical sense describes how Gaul, Iberia, and other regions adopted Latin language, Roman law, and imperial customs: The Romanization of Britain was never fully complete.

The script-conversion sense is more common today. (Lowercase romanization emphasizes the general process.)
