Lusitania

Sunk ocean vessel

Lusitania was an ancient Roman province covering most of present-day Portugal and parts of western Spain.

The name survives in references to Portuguese culture and history: Lusitanian poetry, the Lusitanian people.

Lusitania is also remembered as the British ocean liner torpedoed by a German submarine in 1915, killing nearly 1,200 passengers and helping draw the United States into World War I.
