Petra
Jordan's carved city
Petra is an ancient city carved into rose-red sandstone cliffs in what is now southern Jordan, famous for its elaborate rock-cut architecture and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: We visited Petra at sunrise to see the Treasury.
Petra is also a feminine given name derived from the Greek word for rock, the feminine form of Peter. (Lowercase petra occasionally appears as a borrowed word for rock.)
