Long Island is a densely populated island extending east from New York City, comprising the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens at its western end and the suburban counties of Nassau and Suffolk to the east.
In casual usage, "Long Island" often refers only to the suburban portions: She grew up on Long Island but works in Manhattan.
