moraine

Ice-deposited ridge

A moraine is an accumulation of rocks, sediment, and debris deposited by a glacier.

As glaciers advance and retreat, they push and carry material that gets left behind in distinctive formations—ridges along the sides (lateral moraines), at the terminus (terminal moraines), or beneath the ice (ground moraines).

The hikers crossed the rocky moraine at the glacier's edge.
