Westchester

North of Manhattan

Westchester is a county in southeastern New York State, just north of New York City.

It functions as shorthand for affluent suburban living—manicured lawns, good schools, and commuter trains to Manhattan: They moved to Westchester when the kids started school.

The name evokes upper-middle-class domesticity, sometimes with connotations of conformity or escape from urban grit.
