Roaring Twenties
Flappers and speakeasies
The Roaring Twenties is the decade of the 1920s, particularly in America and Europe, characterized by economic prosperity, jazz music, flapper culture, Prohibition, and a sense of liberation following World War I.
The era ended abruptly with the 1929 stock market crash: Gatsby embodies the glamour and emptiness of the Roaring Twenties. (Lowercase roaring twenties describes any similar era.)
