Riverhead
Where waters begin
Riverhead is a town in Suffolk County on Long Island, New York, serving as the county seat.
It sits at the point where the Peconic River meets the bay, which explains the name.
Riverhead marks the rough dividing line between Long Island's suburban western half and the more rural, agricultural eastern forks: We stopped in Riverhead on our way to the Hamptons.
