merlot
Soft red wine
Merlot is a dark blue grape variety used to make red wine, and the wine made from it.
The grape produces soft, fruity wines with less tannin than cabernet sauvignon, making it approachable for casual drinkers: a glass of merlot, the merlot was smooth and easy to drink.
Merlot is one of the primary grapes in Bordeaux blends and is widely planted in California, Chile, and Italy. (Sometimes capitalized as Merlot, especially on wine labels.)
