Kamehameha

Islands' first king

Kamehameha is best known as the signature energy attack in the Dragon Ball manga and anime series—a powerful beam of ki fired from cupped hands after a distinctive charging pose and chant: Ka-me-ha-me-HA!

The word comes from the Hawaiian king Kamehameha I, who unified the Hawaiian Islands in the early 19th century, though the anime creator chose it partly for its sound.

In gaming and internet culture, it describes any dramatic charging-up gesture before releasing force: He did a Kamehameha pose before throwing the ball.
