Sargon

First empire builder

Sargon was an Akkadian king who ruled Mesopotamia around 2300 BCE, credited as the first empire-builder in recorded history.

He unified Sumerian city-states and established the Akkadian Empire.

The name has been adopted by later rulers and appears in discussions of ancient Near Eastern history: Sargon of Akkad founded the world's first empire.
