Tecumseh
Native confederacy leader
Tecumseh was a Shawnee leader who organized a confederation of Native American tribes to resist American expansion in the early nineteenth century.
He allied with the British in the War of 1812 and died in battle in 1813.
His name, meaning "shooting star" or "panther across the sky," has been given to towns, a Civil War general (William Tecumseh Sherman), and various American landmarks.
