Pacific volcanic brew
Kona refers to a district on the western coast of Hawaii's Big Island, known for its coffee-growing region.
Kona coffee, grown on the volcanic slopes of Mauna Loa, commands premium prices and has become shorthand for high-quality Hawaiian coffee: I'll have the Kona blend.
Kona winds are occasional leeward winds that bring rain to typically dry western Hawaiian shores.
