hula

Hawaiian storytelling dance

Hula is a traditional Hawaiian dance characterized by flowing arm movements and swaying hips, performed to chants or music.

The dance tells stories through gesture and motion.

A hula hoop—the toy twirled around the waist—takes its name from the similar hip rotation: She can keep a hula hoop going for ten minutes.
