John Milton
John Milton was an English poet of the seventeenth century, best known for *Paradise Lost*, his epic retelling of Satan's rebellion and humanity's fall from grace.
His name evokes grand ambition and literary seriousness: She wrote with Miltonic sweep.
Milton also defended free speech in *Areopagitica*, making him a touchstone in censorship debates.
