royalists
Defenders of kings
Royalists are supporters of a monarch or monarchy, especially during periods when royal authority is contested.
The term most often appears in historical contexts—English Civil War royalists backed Charles I against Parliament, French royalists opposed the Revolution.
More broadly, a royalist favors hereditary rule over republican government: The country remains divided between royalists and democrats.
