Prometheus
Divine fire smuggler
Prometheus is a figure from Greek mythology, a Titan who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity.
Zeus punished him by chaining him to a rock where an eagle ate his liver daily, only for it to regenerate each night.
The name now suggests daring defiance of authority for human benefit, or the dangerous consequences of overreaching: a Promethean act of rebellion, Promethean ambition.
Mary Shelley subtitled her novel *Frankenstein* "The Modern Prometheus."
