Hawai`i
Fiftieth American state
Hawai`i is the fiftieth U.S. state, an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean.
The spelling with the okina (`) reflects Hawaiian orthography, marking a glottal stop between the two i's.
In Hawaiian, the word refers to the Big Island specifically; in English, it names the entire state.
We're flying to Hawai`i next month.
