Caesar

Imperial Roman title

Caesar is a title derived from the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, later adopted by Roman emperors and eventually becoming a generic word for ruler—giving us German *Kaiser* and Russian *czar*.

A Caesar salad, despite the imperial sound, was invented by restaurateur Caesar Cardini.

In casual use, Caesar often refers to this salad: I'll have the Caesar with grilled chicken.
