Claudius

Caligula's stuttering successor

Claudius is a Roman name, most famously borne by the emperor Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (10 BC–54 AD), who ruled Rome despite being considered unfit due to physical disabilities.

Shakespeare's *Hamlet* features a villainous King Claudius who murders his brother to seize the throne.

The name occasionally appears in historical fiction or as a formal given name.
