Ancient Mediterranean harbor

Jaffa is an ancient port city on the Mediterranean coast, now part of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality in Israel.

It appears in biblical texts and has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years, making it one of the oldest cities in the world.

Jaffa oranges, a sweet thick-skinned variety once exported globally, take their name from the city.

In British slang, particularly Australian, a Jaffa is a chocolate-coated orange candy, and by extension something that looks promising but disappoints.
