Murmansk
Russian Arctic city
Murmansk is a port city in northwestern Russia, located above the Arctic Circle on the Kola Peninsula.
It is the world's largest city in the Arctic and remains ice-free year-round due to warm North Atlantic currents, making it strategically important as Russia's principal Arctic port: supply convoys to Murmansk during World War II.
