x86

PC chip standard

x86 refers to a family of instruction set architectures for computer processors, originating with Intel's 8086 chip in 1978.

The name comes from the model numbers of early chips in the series: 8086, 80286, 80386, 80486. x86 architecture dominates personal computers and servers: Is this software compatible with x86?

The 64-bit extension is often called x86-64 or x64.
