instruction set
CPU's command language
An instruction set is the complete collection of commands that a computer processor can execute, forming the fundamental language through which software communicates with hardware.
Each processor family has its own instruction set architecture, which determines what operations are possible and how they're encoded.
Programs written for one instruction set won't run natively on processors using a different one, which is why software compatibility depends on matching the target architecture.
