hyperthreading
Simultaneous thread execution
Hyperthreading is Intel's proprietary technology that allows a single processor core to handle two instruction threads simultaneously, appearing to the operating system as two logical processors.
The technique improves efficiency by keeping more of the processor's resources busy: while one thread waits for data, the other can execute.
The new chip supports hyperthreading, so your eight cores show up as sixteen.
