podium

Where conductors stand

A podium is a raised platform for a speaker, conductor, or award recipient to stand on.

Originally distinct from lectern (the slanted stand holding notes), podium now commonly refers to both: She stepped up to the podium to deliver her speech.

In sports, podium finish means placing in the top three, from the tiered platform where medalists stand.
