processor

Data handling unit

A processor is something that processes—that is, performs a series of operations on something to change or prepare it.

In computing, a processor (or microprocessor) is the chip that executes instructions and performs calculations, the brain of a computer: My laptop has a fast processor but not much memory.

Food processors chop, blend, and mix ingredients.

Word processors are software applications for creating and editing text documents.

A person who processes applications, claims, or data may also be called a processor.
