DOS
Command-line computing era
DOS stands for disk operating system, the text-based software that ran IBM-compatible personal computers before Windows.
Users typed commands at a C:\ prompt to navigate directories and run programs.
I learned to use DOS before graphical interfaces existed.
The term now evokes 1980s computing nostalgia. (Lowercase dos is the plural of hairdo.)
