compiler

Source code converter

A compiler is a program that translates code written in one programming language into another, typically converting human-readable source code into machine code that computers can execute.

Unlike an interpreter, which processes code line by line, a compiler transforms the entire program at once before execution: The compiler caught several syntax errors before the build completed.

Outside computing, a compiler is someone who gathers and arranges material: the compiler of an anthology.
