tramways
Urban rail transit systems
Tramways are rail systems for trams—streetcars that run on tracks embedded in city streets.
The term is more common in British English than American.
A tramway can refer to the tracks themselves, the route, or the entire transit system: The city's tramways were torn up in the 1950s.
In industrial contexts, tramways are overhead cable systems for transporting materials.
