motorman
Subway train operator
A motorman is the operator of an electrically powered vehicle, especially a streetcar, subway train, or trolley.
The term dates from the era when such transit vehicles required a dedicated driver at the controls: The motorman rang the bell as the trolley approached the station.
Now largely replaced by more general terms like operator or driver.
