Czechoslovakia

Prague's former nation

Czechoslovakia was a country in Central Europe that existed from 1918 to 1992, formed after World War I from territories of the dissolved Austro-Hungarian Empire.

It comprised the Czech lands (Bohemia and Moravia) and Slovakia.

The country peacefully dissolved into two independent nations—the Czech Republic and Slovakia—in what became known as the Velvet Divorce: My grandmother grew up in Czechoslovakia before the split.
